They met again at breakfast and hardly talked but stole
glances of each other. Everyone knew that they were looking at each other from
time to time except him or her. Kunal was his usual zesty self and talked about
going to Mumbai. He had never been there so was very excited. Kripa was upset
that both her husband and child were going away for sometime. Whenever she
thought of Angad as her husband, her spirits soared and a secret smile would
touch her lips. Such was life.
Naina came up with a plan to get them together. She
announced during breakfast, 'we haven't even completed the marriage rituals.
You all forgot one thing; the reception!' On hearing that announcement, they
all started talking at once; making plans and deciding what they were going to
wear.
They decided on a small reception, which would include
family members and close friends only. They wanted it to be a comfortable yet
festive environment. Maybe this would be the reason they would get together.
Naina thought.
While the rest of the household was busy in preparations
for the reception, Angad and Kripa were getting ready... separately. Aaliya
insisted that they were separate so that when they saw each other, they could
be bedazzled. Kripa just followed all this silently lost deep in thought. She
wore a light pink sari with silver embroidery. The colors were similar to her
wedding gown but in a different style. Her blouse was halter neck and she
looked gorgeous. She sat in front of the mirror thinking about last night. They
had fit together so perfectly. Even though he was sleeping, he had curved
against her and cuddled into her. Moreover, what had happened this morning… she
blushed even thinking about it.
At seven sharp, she heard a knock on the door and smiled.
She screamed 'come in'. Angad opened the door ready to say something and his jaw
dropped. Kripa was about to say something and the brush froze midway in her
hair.He was wearing a black suit with a silver shirt. The collar neck was open
and he looked casual yet sexy. They stared into each others eyes in the mirror.
She wanted to go to him and smooth his collar. He wanted to go to her and brush
the luxuriant mass of silk.
Kunal came in screaming and the spell broke. He then
realized what an idiot he had been when his parents looked awkwardly at each
other. Oh well, the damage is done, he thought. He went to his mother and
hugged her tight and whispered in her ear, 'you are gorgeous, Mom.' Angad saw
Kripa blush and smile sweetly at her son. For once in his life, he was jealous
of his son.
He went to her, gave her one of his devastating smiles,
and asked, 'Shall we go?'
Kripa was disappointed he had not told her how she
looked. Fine, she would not comment either.
When the beautiful couple went downstairs, everyone
started clapping because they looked just perfect. The couple glanced at one
another and smiled. Then Kripa realized that words did not matter at all. She
knew Angad appreciated her. Angad felt better too. He wondered what it was
about his wife that one smile by her and his world would suddenly be complete.
They talked to their friends who congratulated them yet
again. Their friends decided that the newly wed couple should eat together.
Kripa and Angad looked awkwardly at each other and memories came to torment
them. When they were together, they always ate together and everyone used to
tease them since they used to behave like a married couple.
They sat and started eating from the same plate when
Kunal insisted that Angad feed Kripa. She blushed again. She silently scolded
herself to stop blushing. They were married now for God's sake. They fed each
other and smiled at each other. Did the past really matter? They were together
now.
After dinner, the DJ put on some slow romantic music.
Angad glanced at Kripa and she looked back at him. They both looked away quickly.
Naina saw that and smiled. She went to Angad and whispered something in Angad's
ear and kissed him on his forehead.
Angad put his hand out palm up and said, 'Kripa, would
you like to dance with me?' She smiled. She was going to forget everything just
for tonight. She took his hand and he kissed it looking at her at the same
time. They walked to the center when he pulled her closer in an embrace. They
swayed to the music while they stared at each other. He suddenly twirled her
around when a laugh escaped her. She slid back in.. perfectly.
The music stopped, yet they did not stop dancing. Their
conversation with their eyes was much more interesting than anything else for
that moment. A round of applause broke out and the spell shattered. They jumped
apart as if they were teenagers caught in action. Kripa blushed furiously and
she walked towards Mishti and Kanan who could not contain their glee. Such was
their friendship that they did not taunt her.
Angad walked to his mother and asked her for the next
dance. By this time, the dance floor was filled with couples. Prithvi came for
Mishti and Nishant came for Kanan. The couples smiled at each other and went to
the dance floor. They look so sweet together, Kripa thought. Kunal came to
Kripa and asked her for the dance. Love poured through her like warm brandy on
a cold night.
They all danced and changed partners. Kripa and Angad
were once again dancing together. It felt so right to be together. They did not
want the night to end as reality would once again invade their world. Why
couldn't it always be like this?
